Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches

There is nothing better to eat while watching your favorite team play than a homemade pulled pork sandwich. To me, pulled pork sandwiches are the epitome of game-day food. Pulled pork sandwiches are easy to make, especially if you use a slow cooker, and can easily feed a crowd. Believe me, if I can make these delicious slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches, any one can. Paired with an ice-cold Coca-Cola, a pulled pork sandwich is perfection!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Like I mentioned before, these slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches are easy to make. Since they are made in the slow cooker, it can be considered a one-pot dish and if you use a liner, you will barely have any clean up.


SERVES 12-16


1 8lb pork shoulder

2 yellow onions, quartered

1 16oz bottle of Coca-Cola or Coke Zero

salt and pepper

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground oregano

Bottled barbeque sauce

Sesame seed topped buns

I like convenience shopping. I don’t like to run all around town to buy stuff. That’s why I’m glad that there is a Dollar General right next to my local grocery store. I popped in and picked up all the items I would need to get game-day ready. Then I just went to the grocery store, picked up my pork shoulder and I was ready to cheer on my hometown teams!


When you purchase your pork shoulder, please make sure to buy bone-in. I have seen some bonesless ones at the store, but you want a bone-in pork shoulder for this recipe. It makes the pork way more flavorful.


Let’s get to cooking. Turn your slow cooker to low. Add onions to your pot.


Add salt and pepper to the pork shoulder to taste. I add about 2 tbsp of salt and rub it in. There is a lot of meat here to season. Then rub in the chili powder, cumin and oregano.


Transfer your pork shoulder to the slow cooker, meat side down. Make sure the skin is facing up. Pour the bottle of Coca-Cola over the pork shoulder, cover and let cook for about 8 hours. You can also cook for 4 hours on HIGH.


After 8 hours, uncover the slow cooker. Remove all the skin and bones. Turn the pork shoulder over in the pot.


Shred the pork with two forks. Be sure to remove any excess skin or small bones that may have stayed behind from the last step.


You are ready to serve. Spread some barbeque sauce onto your buns. This is optional. Some people like barbecue sauce on pulled pork, others don’t.


Top the buns with the pulled pork and you are ready to eat! Who would’ve thought that Coca-Cola would make meat taste so amazing?

    The tip about picking bone-in is super interesting! I usually do boneless but I’ll have to try that for next time!!
